ER308/308L is a low-carbon content austenitic stainless steel filler metal that minimizes the risk of carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion. Present in wire form for SAW welding, this filler metal provides good weldability, high corrosion resistance, and improved strength, ideal for severe welding applications in harsh environments.
AWS Class ER308/308L SAW and FLUX contain a chemical composition of 19-21% chromium, 9-11% nickel, and up to 0.03% maximum carbon content, which improves corrosion resistance by reducing carbide precipitation. These fillers provide a tensile strength of about 600 MPa, yield strength of about 300 MPa, and elongation of 35%. Their physical characteristics are a density of 7.9 g/cm³ and melting range of 1350-1400°C, which provide high thermal stability and oxidation resistance for high-temperature use.
