Weston Stainless, a UK-based company located in Midland, is a major distributor of high-quality stainless steel products that include high-performance welding consumables for industrial purposes. Of its specialty products, AWS Class ER316/316L SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) wire and flux offer outstanding corrosion resistance and toughness, especially in chloride environments and acidic settings. Produced from austenitic stainless steel, these filler materials are available in wire form, to be used with appropriate flux to provide deep penetration and high-strength welds. Low carbon content reduces carbide precipitation, improving weld quality and avoiding intergranular corrosion in severe applications.
AWS Class ER316/316L SAW wire is made up of 18% chromium, 12% nickel, 2-3% molybdenum, and low carbon content, providing superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Mechanical properties are tensile strength of about 550 MPa, yield strength of about 300 MPa, and elongation of 35%. Physical properties are a density of 7.98 g/cm³ and a melting range of 1370-1400°C, which guarantees high-temperature applications. The included flux promotes arc stability, resulting in smooth welds with less spatter and better slag removal.
